Mission: To create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all students.
The ASES- After School Education & Safety- program at Marysville Joint Unified School District was established in December 2006. The after school program offers students a safe place to go; have an opportunity to complete their homework; and participate in enrichment activities. We prioritize enrollment to displaced families, foster youth, and administrative requests. School sites offer a variety of enrichment activities based on student needs and interests. They may include: arts and crafts, physical fitness, health promotion, music, dance, career awareness, service learning, coding, computer skills, STEAM activities, technology, cooking club, science club, drama club, school spirit activities and more! We strive to establish positive relationships with students and provide them with meaningful, enjoyable activities. Recreation and a supper meal are offered everyday. ASES operates every school day (except last day of school) from after school until 6 P.M. The program is free to all students. With parent permission middle school students have the option to walk or bike home after signing out. ASES strives to improve through the Continuous Quality Improvement Cycle: Assess, Plan, Improve.
The quality standards for Expanded Learning Programs are:
- Safe and Supportive Environment
- Active and Engaged Learning
- Skill Building
- Youth Voice and Leadership
- Healthy Choices and Behaviors
- Diversity, Access, and Equity
- Quality Staff
- Clear Vision, Mission and Purpose
- Collaborative Partnerships
- Continuous Quality Improvement
- Program Management
- Sustainability

To get the most out of the ASES/STARS program, students should have the intent to utilize and are encouraged to attend the full program each day. In the event that a student needs to leave early from the program, the parent would indicate the reason.
