Welcome!

If your child is enrolled in my 7th or 8th  grade social science class, this page provides information regarding academic and behavioral expectations. Please read it, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to send me an email ( esimmons@mjusd.com ) or call the school (741-6130).

The students will fill out their planner everyday at the beginning of class. The planner lists all assignments for that day and announces upcoming work and due dates. The students will be graded on the completion of their planner.

I will update Aeries (web site) once a week with student grades. I will also list some future assignments, so you can help your child study and prepare. You will need an ID# and password to log on. Aeries is the most efficient way for you to monitor your child's grade. Please take advantage of this resource.

The most important type of homework is studying for quizzes and tests. Students will not be assigned homework every night, but it is important that they finish any work that they didn't get done in class. Quizzes will be given on Wednesdays. The quizzes will cover material assigned since the last quiz.

Assignments turned in late will earn a zero grade. This is a school policy for all 7th and 8th grade students. The policy will be enforced, but I am always willing to work with students who are struggling academically. I will offer opportunities for them to improve their grade if they show a genuine desire.

Listed below are some expectations for student behavior. Additional information about school rules is in the handbook. Please take the time to read them.

  1. When the bell rings, you are expected to be in your seat and ready to work.
  2. Bring all materials to class with you.
  3. Listen to directions and do your best to follow them.
  4. Respect others in your actions and speech.
  5. If you wish to speak, raise your hand and wait to be called on.

I am looking forward to a great year of learning.

Sincerely,

Mr. Simmons
