Writing

Writing will consist of grammar, spelling, journal writing, letter writing, and essays.  During the first few weeks of school, we will be focusing on writing clear topic sentences for story summaries along with summary paragraphs.  Weekly grammar lessons will be completed in class.

Homework: For writing, students can expect to complete a weekly spelling assignment. A pretest will be sent home on Monday - students should correct the test, write missed words 3 times each, and write each word in cursive one time.  Additionally, students will begin a spelling assignment on Tuesday or Wednesday that must be completed at home by Thursday.  Students should also prepare for the weekly spelling test and review weekly grammar skills.  Although there is no formal writing homework, students are encouraged to begin a personal writing journal.
