February 2010

Dear Grade Eleven Student:

2O1O EARLY ASSESSMENT PROGRAM

In a short time, you will be taking the California Standards Tests (CSTs) in several subjects, including English and mathematics. When you take the grade eleven CSTs in English and in either Algebra ll or Summative High School Mathematics, there will be a brief set of optional multiple-choice questions that are part of the Early Assessment Program (EAP).

The EAP lets you know if you are ready for collegeJevel course work in English and mathematics at the end of your junior year of high school. lf you have difficulty with one or both of the exams, this early signal gives you an opportunity to improve your skills in English and/or mathematics during your senior year or the summer before you enter a California State University (CSU) or a community college. Whether you plan to attend a CSU or a community college, taking steps to prepare for college before you graduate is important to your future success. You will receive your EAP results on your Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program Student Report in late summer of 2010.

lf you would like the CSU or California Community Colleges to receive your English and mathematics EAP results, please fill in the bubble in the EAP Readiness for Gollege English and Mathematics - EAP Augmentation sections on your STAR answer sheets to authorize the release of your results. We strongly encourage you to release your resulG. lf you choose not to release your results and later decide you would like the CSU or a community college to receive your English and mathematics EAP results, you will be asked to provide your EAP results to the CSU or participating community colleges.

You can access Web-based English and math college prep interactive tutorials to assist you in improving your skills while still in high school. To learn more about the EAP tutorials, please visit the CSU English Success Web site at http://wwv.csuenqlishsuccess.ors/ and the CSU Math Success Web site at http ://www. csu mathsuccess. orq/.

lf you have questions regarding the EAP, please talk with your English and mathematics teachers, high school counselor or career center director, or you may send an e-mail to eapmail@calstate.edu.
