Child Development

Office hours 7:30 - 4:00 Monday through Friday
(530)749-6165

The Child Development Program currently serves approximately 550 students throughout the Marysville Joint Unified School District. Students participate in one of three different programs; State Preschool, Child Care, and Latchkey, that are located at 11 different sites throughout the District. There are 20 teachers, 25 assistants, 2 secretaries, one custodian, and one director that work within the Child Development Program to provide services to children. In addition, MJUSD also partners with First 5 Yuba and the Yuba County Office of Education to provide a School Readiness Program at Cedar Lane, Linda, Ella Elementary and communities.

State Preschool Program

Goals of the State Preschool program include enhancing the total growth of each child by doing the following: develop each child's sense of self-worth, provide a wide range of experiences which form a basis for future learning in all areas of the curriculum (language, mathematics, science, music, and art), encourage the child's natural curiosity about the world, develop each child's communication skills, provide opportunity for physical development and healthful living, help each child learn how to handle his/her emotions and consider the feelings of others, develop problem-solving skills, help each child develop a sense of trust in both peers and adults of all representative spectrums of society, and to encourage thinking skills and creativity.

Our second goal is to expand the parent's understanding and knowledge by offering opportunities such as: learning more about child growth and development, being included as a integral part of and equal partner in their children's educational process and to increase their self-confidence.

Latchkey Programs

Literacy is the cornerstone of learning. Our programs are rich in literacy and language. Social relations, math and logic, music and movement, and creative expression are all key components. Classrooms are child centered, drawing directly from the child's reality. Services provided include an extended day program after school, assistance with homework for school age children, and referrals to other community agencies if needed.

Children's Center Program - Preschool and School-Age

Goals for our Children's Centers in connection with the home and the community, is to hold high expectations, inspire learning, and create student success. Our programs are designed to supplement the home and to insure that children will be all that they can be. Important parts of our program are parent education and continuous staff development. The curriculum components in this program include literacy, nutrition, cognitive development, health, science, art, music, physical development, and dramatic play. However, our Children's Center program goes beyond these requirements by trying to establish a stable emotional and social environment that will encourage children's natural curiosity of the world and enhance children's own sense of self-worth.
