Classes

Monday-Friday, June 24-28, 2019, Week-long Seminar on Native American Culture. Fieldtrip to DQ-U in Davis. Students will stay in dorms. Workshops include: Storytelling, Leather Projects, California Music and Songs, Sports, T-shirts, Making Atlatls and Darts, Clay Processing and Firing. Families are also invited.
 
Saturday-Sunday, June 1-2, 2019, Basket Making @ Yuba Sutter Pow Wow at the Yuba Sutter Fairgrounds  in Yuba City. Students will learn Cherokee Double Weave ad Pineneedle Baskets. Students will be guided through the process of making three baskets while learning how to prepare and store materials.
 
Saturday-Sunday, May 18-19, 2019, LaCrosse Making and Playing game.
Students will learn to make their own LaCrosse equipment and lean to play the game.
 
Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5, 2019, Making Atlatl and Darts
Students will make traditional Atlatls and darts. And learn how to use them.
 
Saturday-Sunday, April 27-28, 2019, Beading Seminar.
Students will learn Native American beading styles. Each student will complete 3 beading projects.
 
Saturday-Sunday, April 15-18, Fieldtrip- Hide tanning & Making Hand Drums. Four days, three nights to DQ-University in Davis. Students will learn how to tan hides and make hand drum.
 
Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7, 2019, Learning about Rocks. Saturday fieldtrip to Red Bluff area to view and collect a variety of rocks. Students will learn about sedimentary, ignaceous and metamorphic rocks. Sunday students will make an ax from the river rocks collected from the trip.
 
Saturday-Sunday, March 30-31, 2019, Leather Projects.
Students will learn how to work with tanned leather. Students will make keychains, belts and leather pictures.
 
Saturday-Sunday, March 9-10, 2019, Dreamcatchers
Students will learn about the legend of the dreamcatcher. Students will make 3 varieties of dreamcatchers.
 
Saturday-Sunday, February 23-24, 2019, Flintnapping: Making Arrows
Students will be guided through process of making arrow points using obsidian and traditional flintnapping methods. Students will also make arrows and darts.
 
Saturday-Sunday, February 9-10, 2019, Native American Rattles
Students will learn how to make rattles from rawhide, gourds and deer toes. 3 products.
 
Saturday-Sunday, February 2-3, 2019, Elk Etching & Wood Carving
Students will be guided through the etching process using Elk Antlers for etching and wood for carving a walking stick. Students will make  projects.
 
Saturday-Sunday, January 26-27, 2019, Clay- Sculpting
Students will be guided through the process of working with clay to make three projects.
 
Saturday-Sunday, January 19-20, 2019, Clay- Beginning the Process
Fieldtrip- Students will find natural clay and learn to clean it for use in pottery. One project.
 
Saturday-Sunday, January 4-5, 2019, T-shirts and More
Students will be guided through the process of making paint, silkscreening and tie-dye methods. Students will finish projects.
 
Friday, Saturday & Sunday, December 28-30, 2018, Soapstone Carving (9am-2pm each day)
Students will be guided through the process of carving using native California Soapstone. Students will make 3 projects.
 
Saturday-Sunday, December 1-2, 2018, Abalone Shell
Students will be guided through the processing of abalone shells from the beginning to 3 final products.
 
Saturday-Sunday, November 24-25, 2018, Making Moccasins
Students will be guided through the process of making moccasins from hides, including decorative beading.
 
Saturday-Sunday, November 3-4, 2018, Silver Smithing Part 2
Students will be guided through process of working with silver and gemstones using torches. 3 projects.
 
Saturday-Sunday, October 27-28, 2018, Silver Smithing Part 1
Students will be guided through the process of working with silver with silver without using torches. 3 projects and wax casting Part 1.
 
Saturday-Sunday, October 13-14, 2018, Gourds - Nature's bowls
Students will be guided through the processes of carving gourds. 3 projects.
 
Saturday-Sunday, October 6-7, 2018, Beading- Brick Stitch
Students will be guided through the processes of Beading in Brick Stitch Style. 3 Projects.
